While
the 3G market is definitely gaining traction in
China, we are rapidly approaching a crossroads
in 3G+ access technologies, where the needs of
different market segments can vary substantially,
the "3G+ future" is offering operators
and end-users more choice than there has been
in the market for some time. The rapid evolution
of 3G access technologies and the market conditions
for their adoption, as well as the parallel 3G
developments in mobile devices, infrastructure,
value added services and operator strategy becomes
the primary focus for the companies with technology
wishes enter into China mobile market whether
the focus is on 3G subscriber, mobile device,
base-station deployment and capital expenditure
as well as value added service of operator.
The number of subscribers
in China will keep increasing rapidly over the
next several years. Research and Markets forecasting
that subscriber levels in China will increase
from the 549.5 million in 2007 to 858.7 million
in 2010. 3G networks is expected to be launched
in 2009 and we expect high take-up of connections
due to affordability of handsets.
Airtrust believes
the key shifts in the mobile market in the next
few years will toward the development of mobile
game, mobile search, mobile learning and mobile
multimedia. Revenue from sales of Java and BREW-based
mobile games in China reached $188.1 million in
2008, a 66% increase from 2007. A new report from
Research and Markets predicts the value of the
market will rise again to reach $460.77 million
in 2010. Interestingly, revenues from the connected
and multiplayer mobile game segment tripled to
$55.65 million in 2008. Mobile game companies
are likely to see another wave of investment between
2008 and 2010 as 3G takes off in the country.
Mobile Search is
another trend where search giant Google is setting
the stage for its biggest push yet into the U.S.
mobile market. Mobile Multimedia service including
the next generation mobile internet, mobile broadband
and multimedia IP messaging market has also emerged
as the key mobile value added service feature
for the future. Mobile operators seeking to differentiate
their mobile internet and mobile broadband offerings
have a wide variety of new services to consider:
broadband streaming services, mobile TV, game,
learning, music, video downloads, location-aware
services, advertising-driven services, high speed
mobile internet access and other rich multimedia
services.
